Kentucky State Police shot a man after troopers said the suspect showed a gun as an officer attempted to stop the vehicle.

KSP troopers said Aaron Hart, 20, is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. KSP said no one else was injured. The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. when troopers attempted to pull over a car believed to be the getaway vehicle used in an armed robbery.

The hold-up happened in Sonora at a Pilot gas station. Police tried to pull over the vehicle as the driver proceeded northbound on I-65.

"He made contact with the driver at which point the driver did have a firearm that he pulled. The officer fired one round and the suspect was hit and taken to University Hospital," Officer Scott Koch said.

According to Kentucky State Police, Officer Jared Newberry, who has been on the force for a year-and-a-half, shot Hart in the neck area. Hart is expected to survive. Koch said troopers also recovered an undetermined amount of cash.

Hart faces numerous charges which include robbery, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, and burglary.

The ramp to Preston Highway on the I-264 Watterson Expressway was shut down for several hours.

Newberry is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
