Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad is asking his command staff Wednesday to try to find the identity of an officer who appears to be asleep in a marked police car in a photograph that is spreading through social media, a police spokesman said.
The photograph shows an officer slouching to his left side, eyes seemingly shut, in a marked LMPD car parked in a lot. It's being deseminated through Facebook, including the public page of radio and television host Terry Meiners. On Meiners' page, the photo had 281 "Likes" and 148 comments 14 hours after being posted.
Sgt. Robert Biven, a police spokesman, said LMPD does not know the identity of the officer or whether he was on duty at the time.
"Obviously, we don't condone an officer sleeping on duty," Biven said. "However, it's important that we don't rush to judgment, because we don't know the circumstances surrounding this photo."
