The Kentucky State Police said a state trooper, C.G. Perry, and a Nelson County Sheriff's deputy, Michael Clark, were involved in an accident Monday afternoon on US 31 East, just a mile north of New Haven, Ky., at 2 p.m.
Kentucky State Police say Perry had clocked a vehicle, going at a high rate of speed, headed south on US 31 East. Perry was facing northbound at the time and had pulled of the road to then follow the suspect heading south and turned on his emergency equipment.
Kentucky State Police say Clark was heading southbound on US 31 East and had also clocked the same vehicle. Clark had pulled in to a driveway to turn around to follow the suspected speeding vehicle and did not see Perry approaching. Police say Clark pulled out into the roadway and Perry was unable to avoid colliding with Clark.
Perry was taken to Flaget Hospital with a broken hand and had to have surgery. Clark was also taken to Flaget and had injuries to his head and face that required sutures.
The vehicle suspected of speeding continued south and did not stop after the collision.
