Louisville Metro Police arrested a man who fired at an officer with an assault weapon late Tuesday night.

Chris Hinton, 21, was arrested after firing at an officer during a traffic stop and then running from the scene, said police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley.

No one was injured in the incident.

A call of shots fired in the area of Fordhaven Road in southwest Jefferson County came out after 10 p.m. and a patrolling officer spotted an orange Chevrolet Blazer that matched the description of a suspect vehicle.

The officer stopped the car in the 3200 block of Fordhaven Road and Hinton got out of the Blazer and immediately started firing at the cop with an assault weapon, Smiley said. The officer was not struck.

Hinton then fled on foot and was eventually found with a K9 team near Doss High School, which is about a mile away.

Hinton was bitten on the shoulder by the police dog when he was surrendering his weapon and was taken to a hospital to be treated.

Charges against him are pending, Smiley said.

Police also found several other weapons in his car, but no further details were immediately available.
