5th Division Officer John Owen died today at approximately 2:00 PM. He was 48 years old.
John was at home with his wife, assisting in her recovery from a recent surgery, when he complained about chest pains. An ambulance was summoned and arrived a short time later.
While en route to the hospital John lost conciousness and could not be revived.
Officer Owen was a 17 year veteran of the police department. He leaves behind his wife Stacie and son Justin.
John was a devoted officer, husband and father. He was a friend to everyone and will be sorely missed. Please keep John's family in your prayers.
John's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 3042 Hikes Lane, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
