Charlotte Park to be Named in Honor of Fallen Officer

A park planned for West Charlotte will be named in honor of a police officer killed in the line of duty.The land o­n Little Rock Road will be developed into a park in 2005.Back in 1987, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Robert Smith was shot and killed while responding to a call near the proposed park.People in the neighborhood requested the project be names Robert L. Smith Park.Tuesday night, Mecklenburg County Commissioners voted in favor of that request.
