Louisville Metro Chief Robert White says he thinks now is a good time to pursue other things, as he is up for a job in Dallas.
Chief White says he went to Dallas for two days of interviews last week and Dallas city officials are expected to be here in Louisville next week.
Chief White says he is fully committed to the citizens of Louisville, but says it could be time to move on.
"First of all the mayor is not seeking re-election and that certainly had a weighing on my decision and secondly I have been the chief here for seven years, Chief White said. I think we have done a lot of great things, with double decrease in crime."
The Dallas Police Department is about two and a half times larger than Louisville.
Chief White says he is really hoping he gets the Dallas job, but is leaving his options open.
