A Lexington police officer is recovering from surgery Monday morning after being shot during a foot pursuit in North Lexington.
The incident occured around 2 a.m. after officers were dispatched to 1053 Winburn Drive on a report of suspicious persons.
When officers arrived two suspects ran and the officers pursued. At some point during the foot pursuit shots were fired and the officer was struck in the back.
His partner put him in the patrol car and drove him to UK Chandler Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Lexington officials said the officer is alert and recuperating at the hospital.
