Circuit Court Judge Mitch Perry ruled in our favor on the injunction. The city is prohibited from not offering Anthem while this is being disputed. This will go to arbitration next. Remember that this is the same thing we had to go through in 2003 and we prevailed then! Keep those calls and e-mails up to the Metro Council. It is important to utlilize all legal and governmental resources in this matter.
It is time for the head scratching to commence again. Last week members of LMPD were advised by FOP President John McGuire that once again Mayor Jerry Abramson is planning on violating our contract by trying to remove health insurance plans that are guaranteed in our contract.
The Prince of Lies attempted to take away our insurance in 2003 just three short months after signing the contract guaranteeing our benefits for the duration of the agreement. Mayor Abramson tried to drop both FOP Insurance plans. He is up to his old tricks again. This time he waited a whole 7 months before trying to back door us, yet again. Your FOP responded by filing a grievance and an injunction in circuit court in 2003 and your FOP has already done so in this instance.
What is Abramson's problem? Doesn't he realize that a written contract means that everybody has to abide by the rules? Including him? The apparent memory lapse from the sound drubbing he received in 2003 both in court and in front of the Metro Council who unanimously urged him to honor the agreement he signed should be a warning to anyone that has a contract with Metro Government; ?Jerry Abramson has no intention of honoring any contract he signs!? Mayor Abramson is in direct violation of the FOP contract, by making such an unwise decision Metro Government apparently feels it is above following work agreements, and is showing great disrespect to our membership by violating the agreement. The language in the contract is not exactly the same as it was in the 2003-2004 contract, it was changed in the next contract and improved upon to simply state that they had to offer us the same insurance plans they did before. We kept the same language in our current contract. What is the difference you ask? There is no difference. There have been no changes and there have been no side bar agreements. The negotiation process notes verify this and lead us to believe that this is nothing more than Abramson's arrogance and hatred of the Police once again rearing its ugly head.
