Deputy Pursifull was killed when his parked patrol car was intentionally rammed by a suspect fleeing the Kentucky State Police.
The incident began when the car pulled away from a Baxter gas station without paying around 12:30 am Thursday morning. Kentucky State Police soon found the vehicle and a pursuit ensued.
Deputy Pursifull was ahead of the pursuit and pulled his vehicle to the side of the roadway to await the trooper and fleeing suspect. The suspects, upon seeing Deputy Pursifull, made the decision to ram into the Deputy's patrol car which resulted in the death of Deputy Pursifull and his K9, "King".
The two suspects were taken into custody and charged with murder and assault on a service animal.
