An officer with the Bowling Green Police Department shot a suspect in the abdomen early Saturday morning as the man attempted to run him over, according to Kentucky State Police.
William Forrest Geiger, 68, was shot in the stomach after allegedly accelerating toward Officer Robert Perry as he exited his patrol car, according to a state police press release. Perry was responding to a complaint of a suspicious person at a local motel.
Perry fired his weapon once at Geiger's vehicle as it approached him and hit him in the abdomen, according to the release. Geiger continued driving away from the scene until police were able to stop his vehicle with "stop sticks" that deflated two of his tires, the release said.
Geiger, of Glasgow, Ky., was taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., where he was in stable condition, according to the release.
Barry Pruitt, a public information officer for the Bowling Green Police Department, said charges against Geiger could be forthcoming.
"Our investigators are working right now with our commonwealth's attorney to decide what charges are pending," Pruitt said.
Geiger did not have a listed phone number.
Perry, according to policy, was put on paid administrative leave pending a state police investigation.
