California Officer Dies in Motorcycle Accident

A Westminster, CA police officer was killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday, January 29, when the driver of another car failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the officer. According to The Officer Down Memorial Page, Officer Steven Phillips, 46, was at the intersection of Trask Avenue and Jackson Street when the other driver ran the stop sign while turning o­n Trask Avenue and hit Officer Phillips' motorcycle. Officer Phillips was reportedly transported to Huntington Beach Police Department where he died of his injuries about o­ne hour later. The driver of the car also died of his injuries sustained in the accident. Officer Phillips had served with the Westminster Police Department for 18 years. He is survived by his wife, who is also a police officer.
