A 5th division officer surrendered to S.W.A.T after a standoff that lasted several hours in the Stone Lakes subdivision near Taylorsville Rd.
The incident began earlier today when police received a call from the officer's wife stating that there was domestic problems at the home.
When police officers arrived they were able to remove the wife and two children safely from the home.
The officer, Mark Wainscott, then barricaded himself in the garage and threatened suicide.
SWAT team members and hostage negotiators were called in and were able to get the officer to emerge from the garage peacefully after several hours of negotiation.
The officer was taken to University Hospital for mental evaluation.
