The Park DuValle Fall Festival, scheduled for Saturday, was canceled at the last minute after permits could not be obtained, the chairman of the event committee said.
Sean Walker said he suspected that the June 3 shootings in Russell Lee Park might have something to do with the center being denied permission to host the festival.
Five people were wounded in that incident, during the annual Southwick Cotter Homes Festival. The park is on the edge of the Park DuValle neighborhood.
Yesterday's festival was to take place at 3600 Bohne Ave., on the grounds of the DuValle Education Center/Carter Traditional Elementary School. There would have been children's rides, vendors, food, a health fair and other entertainment.
?It was supposed to be a family oriented, run-of-the-mill festival,? Walker said.
There are no plans to reschedule it for this year, he said.
