Fired Deputy seeks to get his job back , file federal lawsuit...

An Oldham County Sheriff's Deputy is appealing his recent termination from the department, citing that the firing was political backlash for written complaints about the Sheriff's Chief Deputy.

Deputy Rob Jones states that he and other deputies have filed numerous written complaints about the sheriff's Chief Deputy, Ron Jones, and that those complaints led to his firing. One of those complaints alleges that Chief Deputy Ron Jones improperly disposed of seized drug evidence by flushing it down a toilet after being confiscated during a search warrant at Louisville International Airport.

?I was clearing security and he approached the other deputy that was with us and he said, you know, ?Look, I got this marijuana in my pocket and I just walked past the canine.? So subsequently he walked into the bathroom and flushed it. And the deputy was like, ?That's evidence, don't you think we should make a call or do something?? And [Ron Jones] thought it was funny,? Rob Jones says.

Rob Jones is appealing his firing to the Oldham County Sheriff's Merit Board.  In addition to appealing his termination, Deputy Rob Jones plans to file a federal whistle blower lawsuit against the department.

?We believe that the sheriff in essence sat on these allegations to the detriment of Rob Jones,? stated his attorney, Tom Clay.

No public comments about the allegations have been been made by Sheriff Steve Sparrow or Chief Deputy Ron Jones.
