David James, president of the River City Fraternal Order of Police, announced
at the last general meeting that he will be stepping down from the post he
has held for three years. Effective January 15th , David will become the inaugural
director the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation. "I cannot find the words
to adequately describe what a painstaking decision this was for me," James
said. "In the end, I decided I could not pass on such a great opportunity." In
addition to stepping down as President, James is also forced to resign from
the Police Department where he has served for 19 years.
"The Fraternal Order of Police has made great progress under his leadership.
We are more focused, better reflect the views of our members in the public
arena and do a better job of bringing together disparate views of the Law Enforcement
community.? said one member. Similar sentiments were echoed throughout the
department.
"During his tenure, the FOP stood its ground behind numerous officer
related and contractual issues with local government," Secretary Paul
Schweizer said. "The fact that we were able to bring about successful
resolutions to the majority of these violations, directly speaks to the resolve
of our president.?
One officer commented, ?It hard to find leaders like David, I'm surprised
he agreed to stay this long.?
?Yes it is.
