A routine traffic stop turned into a deadly confrontation for 4th division Officer Michael Roberson. The incident unfolded just after 1 a.m on June 19th near the intersection of 7th and Berry.
Officer Roberson stopped a vehicle in front of the Green Light tavern. The driver of the vehicle immediately exited the vehicle and began shooting at Officer Roberson, striking his vehicle several times.
Officer Roberson, a 2 year veteran, immediately slid down his seat where the dashboard afforded some cover from the gunfire. At some point the officer was able to kick open the drivers side door of his cruiser and return fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect, Anthony Williams, died at the scene. Officer Roberson survived the confrontation without injury.
