A quick-thinking 5- year-old Louisville boy is safe at home on Sunday, after having quite an ordeal on Saturday night.
According to Metro Police, the boy was sitting in a car at the B-Line gas station at 35th and Broadway while his mother went in to pay for gas.
That is when a man allegedly jumped into the car and took off.
The mother and other family members got into a different car and followed the suspect, calling police along the way.
When officers caught up with the stolen car, the suspect jumped out into the street and ran into an apartment building at 22nd and Magazine.
Officers caught him inside and apartment there.
But the 5- year-old was not with him.
The boy had managed to slip out of the car about the time the suspect had hopped in to steal it at the gas station.
His mother did not notice as she followed the her stolen car, thinking her son was still inside.
The little boy knew his phone number, called his home and someone picked him up at the gas station and took him home.
