A standoff with an armed man who was threatening to kill himself in an Eastern Jefferson County motel room ended peacefully early this morning.
Officer Dwight Mitchell, a spokesman for Louisville Metro Police, said the police took the man into custody about 6 a.m.
The man, who was described as being in his 60s and despondent over his impending divorce, holed up in a room at the Staybridge Suites off Blankenbaker Parkway near Southeast Christian Church.
The man, whose identity was not released, lives in Douglass Hills, metro police Maj. Bill Weedman said last night.
Police received a call from someone requesting a check on the manâ?'s welfare sometime after 6 p.m. He wasnâ?'t home, but police traced him to the motel.
When police arrived and found the man in the room with a gun, they backed out and called in a SWAT team and negotiators.
