Student's Presence Won't Keep Police Chief From Forum

Metro Police Chief Robert White Monday decided he will attend a non-violence forum Saturday at St. Stephen Baptist Church.

White was undecided because University of Louisville student Phillip Bailey also is going to attend, WLKY NewsChannel 32 reported.

The Secret Service investigated Bailey last week after he posted a message on the Internet suggesting that Gulf Coast survivors should shoot police, National Guard members or even President George W. Bush to get whatever goods they needed to survive.

White said he hesitated about attending the forum out of concern his presence would create a problem for the Secret Service, WLKY reported.

"They've pretty much done what they're going to do, so I will be there," White said. "It was never really my desire to have a young man that is ill-spoken to be a deterrent for me attending a forum that I think could help address some of the important issues of community, especially as it relates to crime and violence."

Following the Secret Service investigation of Bailey, the U.S. attorney is reviewing the possibility of prosecuting him.
