Throughout the past month many folks have done uncounted kind and generous acts in memory of Peter and for all Police Officers.
Shortly after Peter's death Sgt. David Burns was contacted by his good friend Mike Armstrong. Mike is a former Law Enforcement Officer from Oldham County and is a nationally recognized comedian. Earlier this year Mike held a benefit show for two Indianapolis Officers that were killed in the line of duty. Mike volunteered his services again when Peter was murdered.
For the past several weeks we have been working to get this benefit from an idea to a reality. We originally were going to hold the benefit at the Lodge, but we thought that our facilities wouldn't be big enough. We got together with retired LMPD Sergeant Eric Johnson who is on the Board of Directors for Supporting Heroes. Through his connections and those of other board members Eric was able to get the reception hall 300 Spring, in Jeffersonville Indiana, the catering and services of all the staff donated for the benefit comedy show. Mike Armstrong got 3 other fellow comedians to donate their services also. Numerous items were donated for a silent auction and all proceeds went to the Grignon family.
Tuesday night we had a near sellout crowd that came together for a good cause and to share a laugh or two. Many thanks go out to the folks that donated their services, donated items and for everyone involved. They say that laughter is the best medicine. Well, Tuesday night everyone present received a large dose.
The support won't end here either. Mike Armstrong wants to volunteer and hold several fundraisers a year for Supporting Heroes and the Fraternal Order of Police. This kindness and generosity has helped to heal the wound that the tragedy of Peter's death opened in all of us.
Thank you Mike!
