A Kentucky state trooper shot and wounded a suspect at the end of a highway pursuit in Louisville on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Jillian Graves, 21, of Louisville, was shot in the left arm and transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Graves' condition was not immediately available because she was checked into the hospital, but had not been assigned a room. State police spokesman Ron Turley said Graves' injury was not life-threatening.
Trooper Julian Christopher reported about 1:11 p.m. EDT that Graves was speeding, tailgating and driving recklessly in a white Chevy Monte Carlo on westbound Interstate 64 in Shelby County.
Christopher activated his emergency lights and tried to pull her over, but Graves didn't stop, police said. Christopher continued his pursuit and called for backup, state police said.
State police said Graves exited the interstate at Blankenbaker Road in Jefferson County and disregarded several traffic signals as the chase continued.
Police cornered Graves' vehicle in a subdivision, but Graves tried to run over Trooper Jason Palmer and made another escape, police said.
The chase ended when Graves lost control of her car and spun out near a shopping center. Palmer and Trooper Derran Broyles approached the car and ordered Graves out of the vehicle.
Graves refused to exit, police said, and attempted to run over Broyles. Broyles and Palmer fired at the car and one bullet struck Graves, police said.
Turley said investigators were still trying to determine which trooper shot Graves.
Following normal procedure, both troopers will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
No troopers were injured.
