An incident involving a gun-waving, disorderly man in Letcher County ended in death after he was killed by a state trooper.
A state police report says dispatchers received a call at 12:22 a.m. Sunday from a residence on Kentucky 588 near Blackey. The caller reported that Jonathan Flynn was intoxicated, damaging property and arguing with his father, James Flynn.
About 25 minutes later, Trooper Adam Hall arrived and reported that Flynn had fired shots. A second trooper, James Sandlin, arrived minutes later and reported that Flynn pointed a weapon at the 27-year-old Hall.
Trooper Hall then shot Flynn, who died at the scene at 2:10 a.m. Neither trooper was injured.
Both troopers have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Both have been troopers for four years.
