Dear Fellow Pipers and Drummers,
As you may have heard, Louisville Metro Police Officer Peter Grignon (Louisville, Ky) was killed in the line of duty this Wednesday. We are asking for your help in the funeral arrangements. The funeral will be held at 1030 hours on Monday March 28, 2005 at Southeast Christian Church on Blankenbaker Lane. Officer Grignon will be buried with full honors at Cave Hill Cemetery section A, near the Broadway/Baxter entrance.
Staging for Pipes and Drums will be at the Broadway/Baxter entrance of Cave Hill Cemetery, Dressed and Ready to Tune(DRT) at 1000 hours EST.
Tunes for the day will be:
Minstrel Boy/Rowan Tree, Bonnie Charlie (will ye no' come back again) /Johnnie Scobie[repeated twice](also known as Bide Away),
We will play Amazing Grace at the gravesite and will walk off during the third verse. -- first verse - solo , second verse - massed band unison, third verse - harmonies and walking off by ranks, final verse -solo.
Drummers will play the funeral cadence throughout the march to the gravesite. 4/4 //:quarter note tap, eighth note tap- eighth note roll to beat three, quarter note rest://.
Directions to Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky:
From I64 Southern Ind; Enter Louisville on I-64E . Pass through the downtown area and take the Grinstead Drive exit [this is the exit after Story Ave]. At the bottom of the ramp turn RIGHT. At the next light, continue straight (the road actually goes a bit to the right but DO NOT make a hard right turn) on Grinstead Drive. Continue on thru the next light - you will be driving beside Cave Hill Cemetery behind the brick wall on your right - go to the next light and turn RIGHT onto Cherokee Road. {If you miss this turn go to the next light which is Bardstown Rd and turn right. } Take Cherokee Road north thru the next light to the entrance of Cave Hill Cemetery. This is a very convoluted intersection with Cherokee Rd coming in at a 45 degree angle and the cemetery entrance on the right. We will be parking vehicles in the lot on the northwest corner of this intersection (which will be directly in front of you as you sit at the light at Cave Hill, Broadway, and Baxter.)
From I65; Enter Louisville on I-65. Follow signs and exit onto I-64 East. Take the Grinstead Drive exit (There is only one exit) [this is the exit after Story Ave]. At the bottom of the ramp turn RIGHT. At the next light, continue straight (the road actually goes a bit to the right but DO NOT make a hard right turn) on Grinstead Drive. Go under the expressway and thru the interchange light. At the next light, continue straight (the road actually goes a bit to the right but DO NOT make a hard right turn) on Grinstead Drive. Continue on thru the next light - you will be driving beside Cave Hill Cemetery behind the brick wall on your right this is a curvy road - go to the next light and turn RIGHT onto Cherokee Road. {If you miss this turn go to the next light which is Bardstown Rd and turn right. } Take Cherokee Road north thru the next light to the entrance of Cave Hill Cemetery. This is a very convoluted intersection with Cherokee Rd coming in at a 45 degree angle and the cemetery entrance on the right. Louisville Fire & Rescue Pipes and Drums: DRT 1000 please park in Phoenix Hill Tavern parking lot. Uniform of the Day: Long sleeved white shirt with tartan tie, black military sweater.
