Two Framingham police officers who were stabbed Friday have been released from MetroWest Medical Center after they were treated for injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, a police spokesman said.
John Meloni of Framingham faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and other crimes, to be heard in Framingham District Court.
Officers Michael Degnan and William Fuer were attacked when they went to question Meloni, 48, outside his Mellen Street residence, Lieutenant Vincent Alfano said. Police suspected Meloni of assaulting another man earlier in the day near the town, Alfano said.
As Degnan and Fuer approached the darkened porch of Meloni's home about 6:20 p.m., Meloni emerged and stabbed Degnan multiple times in the chest and slashed Feur in the hands and wrists, Alfano said.
The officers subdued Meloni and arrested him, Alfano said. At police headquarters, Meloni complained of rib injuries and was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he was under police guard and listed in good condition yesterday.
Doctors treated both officers at MetroWest Medical Center.
Alfano said he expected Meloni to be released from Brigham and Women's Hospital early this week and face charges.
