An officer-involved shooting in Anchorage left two people dead, and police in Hardin County are investigating a murder they believe is connected.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday in a field in the 1500 block of Ridge Road in Anchorage.

Before the shooting, a man who lives nearby noticed a car he didn't recognize and called police.

Louisville Metro police who are assisting with the investigation could not say if those people were armed but said that two Anchorage officers fired shots and those two people were killed outside the vehicle.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The car that was being driven by the two people killed was registered to a man in Hardin County.

When police in Hardin County went to that home, which is located between Glendale and Elizabethtown, the homeowner was found stabbed to death.

It is unclear what role the two people who died played in that homicide.

"Currently our public integrity unit is handling the investigation. Still waiting to learn specifically who those individuals are. At this point we don't have age, gender, race. Until piu gets involved in the investigation gets involved and finds out more specifics. We haven't talked to the officers yet so we're very limited with the information we do have at this point," LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said.

The Police Department said it plans to release more information Wednesday morning. The Hardin County sheriff plans to do the same.
