Metro police found a woman, dead, in the rear of a home in the 2600-block of Duncan Street Thursday afternoon. They said she appeared to have been shot. A homicide investigation is now underway.
Officers responded to a call just before 5 p.m. Detectives took three people away for questioning; however, no arrests had been made Thursday evening, police spokesperson Alicia Smiley said. The home is across the street from St. John Cemetery in the Portland neighborhood.
Police at the scene were awaiting a search warrant to gather more evidence. The coroner had not yet released the victim's name; an autopsy was likely for Friday morning, officers said.
Three metro police officers en route to the call were hurt when their two cars crashed at 26th and Duncan Streets, in sight of the crime scene. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries. People in a third, civilian car involved in the crash were not hurt, police said.
