The hustle and bustle of Derby week welcomed me to the city after I got the call to join the WAVE 3 News team right on the heels of the 136th running of the horses. After nearly a year-and-a-half of hitting the streets of Kentuckiana dark and early for WAVE 3 News Sunrise, I traded in my three alarm clocks in the Fall of 2011 to be part of the evening news team that's Working For You. I've covered an interesting variety of stories during my time in the WAVE 3 Newsroom; from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Louisville, to the Senate race between Jack Conway and Rand Paul, and even to celebrity encounters... like talking to Paula Deen about the famous Hot Brown during her visit to her new southern Indiana buffet. I've also been honored to be asked as a guest on KET's Comment on Kentucky. Before I came back to the "northern most southern city", I spent a summer in Louisville while in college for an internship and part-time job. I visited many times before that to see family in southern Indiana, which is where my grandparents are from. I grew up in east-central Indiana and graduated from the Pulliam School of Journalism at Indiana's Franklin College in May of 2004. I joined WANE-TV in Fort Wayne a short time later, where I reported and anchored. While I had the opportunity to cover a litany of stories in Indiana's second largest city, perhaps what stands out the most in my mind would be my extensive coverage of Indiana's historic 2008 election, which included two interviews with then-Presidential candidate Barack Obama. I've been honored to receive awards from organizations along the way, which include the Associated Press. Bringing you the day's news is a dream come true for me; in fact, it's a career I always knew I wanted to pursue. At the age of five I would bring the state map of Indiana into my parent's living room and present the weather. While reporting is my passion, I knew at that young age that broadcasting is what I wanted to do. I seized every moment to capture that dream, and my first moment came as early as high school. I turned my first LIVE shot during my junior year for our student newscast. I continued that experience in college, where I perhaps set a record of six internships, all while I also worked for the campus radio station and TV newscast! I started my internship experience at radio station WQLK-FM in Richmond, Indiana; continued at WLKY-TV; WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio; and WFYI-TV, WTHR-TV, and WISH-TV all in Indianapolis. Outside of work you'll find me expanding my vocabulary and writing. My other interests include architecture and design, psychology, reality TV, traveling, reading, working out, cooking, exploring Kentuckiana and its endless restaurants, searching for bluegrass, and adding things to do to my "before 30" list. |
