The dollar store security guard shot and wounded Monday thanks a police officer for saving his life. A robber shot 47-year-old Kevin Churchill in his legs inside the store on West Jefferson Street Monday.
Churchill is now out of the hospital. Officer Jeff Lauder helped Churchill keep pressure on one of his wounds to try to slow the bleeding. Churchill calls the officer a guardian angel: "The first thing I want to do is hug him, shake his hand, thank him for holding the life in me."
Ofc. Lauder responds, "He removed his hand from it, and blood shot across the room, like it was coming out of a ketchup bottle, I guess. That's when I thought, oh my gosh, this is bad."
